The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) continues its crackdown on illegal online gambling platforms, instructing Australian internet service providers (ISPs) to block more unlicensed websites.
The latest sites added to the blocked list include Crown Slots and Billy Billion, further reinforcing ACMA’s commitment to safeguarding consumers from unauthorized gambling services.
Strengthening Enforcement Against Unlicensed Gambling
Following investigations that confirmed these sites were operating illegally under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001, ACMA has taken action to restrict access to these platforms. Since implementing its website-blocking initiative in November 2019, ACMA has shut down 1,178 illegal gambling and affiliate websites, limiting access to unregulated platforms. Risks of Using Unlicensed Gambling Platforms
ACMA warns that unlicensed operators, including those claiming to offer live dealer experiences or roulette low-cost live studios, do not adhere to Australia’s regulatory framework. Players using these unauthorized platforms risk losing funds with no recourse.
Last month, ACMA also blocked eight additional websites, including JokaRoom, AUDPokies888, and Wild Pokies, as part of its continuous effort to regulate the digital gambling space.
ACMA’s Ongoing Efforts in the Gambling Industry
Beyond website blocking, ACMA also maintains a public register of licensed wagering services, helping users verify legitimate operators. Additionally, it provides resources for identifying illegal gambling platforms and reporting unlicensed operators.
In a separate enforcement action, ACMA recently investigated Network Ten (Sydney) for broadcasting gambling advertisements during the 2024 Australia Formula 1 Grand Prix, a violation of the Australian Commercial TV Code of Practice.
